Dechert and its lawyers have been honored for consistency in devising innovative legal strategy in a special report marking the 20th anniversary of the Financial Times’ Innovative Lawyers Awards. The report highlights those lawyers and law firms that have had the greatest impact on legal innovation since the FT began its Innovative Lawyers program in 2005.
At a firmwide level, Dechert was recognized among the FT’s Top 20 “Most Innovative Global Law Firms” of the past 20 years. The firm has been consistently ranked by the FT among the most innovative law firms across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, the three regions covered by the Innovative Lawyers program. Financial Times rankings are based on firms’ written submissions, along with scored assessments of their digital maturity, policies towards people, approach to social responsibility, and financial success.
Dechert partner Mike Cowie, co-chair of the firm’s global antitrust group, was also named among the FT’s Top 20 “Most Innovative Legal Practitioners” of the past 20 years. Mr. Cowie was recognized by the FT as one of the ten most innovative lawyers in North America in 2019 after securing clearance for CVS Health’s US$70 billion merger with health insurer Aetna, the largest healthcare services deal ever. His representation of Medco Health Solutions in its US$29 billion merger with Express Scripts also won the FT’s Corporate Law category in 2012.
Dechert has had more lawyers ranked as “Innovative Legal Practitioners” in North America than any other firm and last year was the only firm in the world with lawyers top-ranked across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Lawyers and firms recognized as part of the 20th anniversary of the FT program were honored in a roll call of all-time winners at The Peninsula Hotel in London on June 24.
