July 19, 2016

The National Bar Association has named Dechert LLP finance and real estate partner Kahlil Yearwood and litigation associate Deborah Kemi Martin as recipients of its “40 Under 40 Nation’s Best Advocates Award”. The 2016 best advocates awards recognize the nation’s top lawyers under the age of 40 who exemplify a broad range of high achievement in the legal field, including in advocacy, innovation, vision, leadership and overall legal and community involvement.

An independent panel, that included former National Bar Association presidents and other key individuals, reviewed a large group of nominees to select the 40 individuals to receive the prestigious awards. The honorees represent a variety of legal professionals, including top firm attorneys, solo and industry practitioners, government lawyers, judges, academicians, corporate counsels and young elected officials, all of who continue to make the legal field and their communities a bastion of hope and activism.

The awards were presented at the National Bar Association’s 40 Under 40 Awards Black-tie Gala on Monday, July 18, 2016 during the organization’s 91st Annual Convention in St. Louis, MO.

In addition to her “40 Under 40 Nation’s Best Advocate Award,” Martin was named the recipient of the 2016 “Excellence in Service Award” during the gala, awarded for outstanding contributions in community involvement, including pro bono work. Martin was selected by a vote of a selection committee and the National Bar Association’s 25,000+ members.
