Vincent Cohen Recognized As a Diversity Leader

Dechert LLP litigation partner Vincent H. Cohen, Jr. has been honored with a Diversity Leader Award by Profiles in Diversity Journal for his commitment to diversity. The award series, now in its tenth year, honors companies and individuals who create, develop and promote programs that support diversity and inclusion. Cohen, who leads Dechert’s Black Affinity Group, has worked to promote and safeguard a comprehensive commitment to diversity since he joined the firm in January 2016.
As former Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and a member of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee under Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Cohen’s authority on federal issues touched the entire United States, yet his responsibilities also embraced local difficulties in the District of Columbia. The two arenas overlapped in his efforts to reduce violent crime in the D.C. metropolitan area. Cohen developed a community-focused approach to crime, expanding diversion programs that provided alternatives to incarceration while preserving resources for prosecuting serious offenders.
Cohen’s community-first mindset has remained a motivating force since he returned to private practice. He remains active in 100 Black Men of America (which he once served as General Counsel), helping promote programs on health and wellness, economic empowerment, education and mentoring among minority youth in the Washington, D.C. area. He is currently an elected Board Member of the Washington Bar Association, one of the country’s oldest African-American bar associations, and is active in other civic organizations such as the National Bar Association and the National Black Prosecutor’s Association.
