Two of Dechert LLP’s antitrust matters are finalists for Global Competition Review’s GCR Awards 2018, which honor the world’s top lawyers, academics, economists and enforcers for their work in the field of antitrust/competition law.
For ‘Matter of the Year’, GCR has shortlisted the Google Shopping investigation, in which Dechert advised a number of IT and media companies in relation to the European Commission’s investigation of Google’s abuse of dominance. A team led by Brussels antitrust partner Alec Burnside and senior associate Marjolein De Backer played a central role in the multi-firm matter that led ultimately to the imposition of a record €2.42 billion on Google in June 2017.
WhiteWave Foods Company’s US$12.5 billion sale to France’s Danone was shortlisted for ‘Merger control matter of the year – Americas’. Partners Paul T. Denis, Mélanie Thill-Tayara and Craig G. Falls led a Dechert team that handled all competition law aspects of the transaction for WhiteWave in the United States and European Union, overcoming public opposition and resolving collateral competition issues to score a multijurisdictional success—ahead of schedule. The Dechert team also included antitrust associates Anna Aryankalayil and Blair Kuykendall in Washington, DC; Marion Provost and Simon Hetsch in Paris; and Michael Okkonen in Brussels.
