Dechert IP Litigators Honored at Managing IP Americas Awards

Martin J. Black, head of Dechert LLP’s intellectual property litigation team, has again been named “Outstanding IP Litigator” in Pennsylvania by Managing Intellectual Property magazine at its annual Americas Awards, which recognize the leading patent, trademark and copyright firms and attorneys throughout North and South America.
Black, a nationally recognized trial lawyer who represents pharmaceutical, electronics, and financial services companies in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and software dispute, has received the honor for three consecutive years—more than any other lawyer.
Dechert was also recognized for its involvement in a Milestone Case of the Year, SCA Hygiene Products v First Quality Baby Products, which Black litigated and won. After hearing Black’s oral argument on behalf of client SCA Hygiene Products, the United States Supreme Court overturned 100 years of precedent, concluding in a 7-1 decision that the defense of laches cannot bar legal damages in patent cases.
Additionally, Dechert partner Robert D. Rhoad, who has handled litigation and provided strategic patent advice for a diverse group of life sciences and technology companies, was shortlisted for Outstanding Litigator: New Jersey. Rhoad, who has handled many Markman hearings and trials, has extensive experience litigating Hatch-Waxman Act ANDA infringement actions on behalf of branded pharmaceutical companies.
