New York/Boston – Leading global law firm Dechert LLP announced today that Chad E. Davis, Ph.D. and Katherine A. (“Kassie”) Helm, Ph.D. have joined its intellectual property practice in Boston and New York, respectively, as partners and also further expanding Dechert’s global life sciences capabilities.

Davis utilizes his extensive scientific background in chemistry to structure strategic, complex patent portfolios – supporting clients through each phase of the patent process, from patent procurement to post-grant challenge and infringement analysis. Helm focuses her practice on representing life sciences clients in complex patent litigation and related intellectual property, antitrust, healthcare and international arbitration matters involving her scientific, medical and technical expertise.

Dechert’s intellectual property practice is focused on maximizing the commercial value of intellectual property. Its lawyers have extensive experience assisting companies with monetizing and extracting value from their IP portfolios, including managing strategic worldwide licensing campaigns and representing clients in both defensive and enforcement litigation.

“Kassie’s and Chad’s significant experience advising clients across a broad range of complex domestic and cross-border intellectual property matters brings increased depth to our global group of IP lawyers,” said Jeffrey Plies, chair of Dechert’s intellectual property practice group. “They are fantastic additions to our powerhouse IP team.”

George Gordon, co-leader of Dechert’s life sciences group, added, “Dechert’s life sciences clients will immediately benefit from Chad’s and Kassie’s industry expertise related to the most crucial IP matters in today’s business world.”

Helm has particular experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, representing companies in all aspects of litigation from pre-suit diligence through appeal, including Patent Office and other contested patent proceedings around the world. She also advises on related regulatory aspects of licensing, capital market transactions and counseling across the life sciences spectrum. Helm earned her J.D. cum laude from Fordham University School of Law, her M.A. and Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University and her A.B. cum laude from Princeton University.
