The Network Journal Honors Deborah Kemi Martin with a “40 Under 40” Award
Dechert LLP litigation associate Deborah Kemi Martin has been selected as an honoree for a “40 Under Forty” Achievement Award by The Network Journal, a New York publication aimed at Black executives, professionals and business owners. The annual award honors men and women whose professional achievements have had a significant impact on an industry or profession and who have also made an important contribution to their community.
Martin, a New York-based associate with Dechert’s trials, securities and investigations group, represents domestic and international clients in complex civil and criminal matters, investigations and enforcement proceedings, and securities litigation. She also serves as the first associate representative of Dechert’s Black Lawyers Alliance and has acted as lead counsel in several pro bono asylum cases, successfully securing asylum for all her clients so far. She has also worked to eliminate the admission of improper forensic science in U.S. courts.
“Kemi is an outstanding lawyer who strives to ensure that the principles of diversity and inclusion are embedded in every aspect of the firm,” said litigation partner Vincent Cohen, who chairs Dechert’s Black Lawyers Alliance. “We are extremely proud that her achievements and hard work have been recognized in this way.”
Martin was previously honored with the National Bar Association’s ‘40 Under 40 Nation’s Best Advocates Award’ and ‘Excellence in Service Award’ in 2016 for advocacy and exceptional community involvement. The same year, she was also named a ‘Rising Star’ by the Nigerian Lawyers Association for significant legal accomplishments and for promoting diversity within the legal profession.
Winners of The Network Journal awards will be honored at a ceremony on June 21 at the New York Institute of Technology Auditorium. Martin and a number of other winners will be featured on the cover of the magazine’s Summer 2018 issue.
