The Deal Awards Europe Recognizes Dechert as Finalist in Five Categories

In the “Most Innovative Deal of the Year” category, Dechert is shortlisted for advising South Korean company, SK hynix, the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker, on its role in the acquisition of Japan-based Toshiba Corporation’s NAND flash memory and solid-state drive business, now known as Toshiba Memory Corp. The innovative financial structure devised by Dechert used English law convertible bonds to channel its long-time client’s ¥395 billion (US$3.6 billion) investment into the acquisition. According to Thomson Reuters, it’s the fourth-largest private equity-backed M&A deal since the financial crisis of 2008.

Dechert is also shortlisted for “Private Equity Law Firm of the Year,” in recognition of its outstanding performance in European private equity, including a recent deal involving Coveris Holdings S.A., a premier global packaging manufacturer, in the sale of its Global Rigid Business to Lindsay Goldberg LLC.

For “European M&A Law Firm of the Year,” Dechert’s M&A practice has been shortlisted for its exceptional practice-wide performance, inward flow of talent and handling of recent complex, high-quality deals. In addition, London-based corporate partner, Christopher Field, is in consideration for “Private Equity Lawyer of the Year” for his recent involvement in a number of high-profile private equity matters since joining Dechert this year.

Dechert was also significantly involved in Bayer’s acquisition of Monsanto, a matter shortlisted for ‘Deal of the Year’. A Dechert team acted as EU counsel to Monsanto on antitrust issues.Winners in all categories will be announced at a breakfast ceremony on November 1 at London’s Aqua, The Shard.
