Dechert Twice Honored by the India Business Law Journal

Two Dechert LLP matters have been honored by the India Business Law Journal in its “Deals of the Year” report for 2018, an achievement that cements the firm’s place among an elite group of India dealmakers.

The publication singled out Dechert’s work for Singaporean clean-energy developer Sindicatum Renewables on the first green bond issuance in South East Asia denominated in Indian rupees and Philippine pesos. Dechert’s international capital markets team, comprised of Patrick Lyons and Jennifer Rees in London helped Sindicatum structure a multi-tranche issuance that allowed the company to raise money in two local currencies in order to fund renewable energy projects in India and the Philippines. The bonds concerned are the first international green bonds issued in accordance with both ASEAN Green Bond Standards and ICMA’s Green Bond Principles.

Dechert also played a central role in a complex deal involving Singapore-based tech investor Basil Partners, which targets international companies operating India-related offshore businesses. Dechert represented Committed Advisors and NewQuest Capital Partners as anchor investors in a complex restructuring and secondary acquisition of a portfolio of digital services companies, which institutionalized the portfolio with the support of long-term capital. Singapore partner Dean Collins led the Dechert team, which encompassed lawyers from nine of the firm’s offices, and also directed the efforts of local counsel in a further seven jurisdictions.

The India Business Law Journal recently named Dechert a “Firm to Watch” in its annual survey of international law firms active in India.
