Dechert Partner Rani Habash named D.C. Rising Star by The National Law Journal
Dechert antitrust partner Rani Habash was selected by The National Law Journal as a “D.C. Rising Star” for 2019. Those named to the list were selected for the substantial legal influence they wield within their practice areas as innovators with strong leadership qualities, superior legal expertise, and a commitment to pro bono, charitable and professional volunteer work.
During the past decade, Mr. Habash has helped secure antitrust clearance for a number of high-profile mergers. Most recently, leveraging his background in economics and significant experience in navigating complex antitrust issues, he helped guide CVS Health in its US$70 billion acquisition of health insurer Aetna — the largest healthcare merger in history — in one of the broadest-ever merger investigations, involving the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division, 19 state attorneys general, and Congress.
Mr. Habash has also become a sought-after authority on trends in antitrust merger enforcement through his role in developing the Dechert Antitrust Merger Investigation Timing Tracker (DAMITT), a data-driven analytical report that is driving policy changes in the antitrust world.
As part of his commitment to defending human rights, Mr. Habash recently led a team of Dechert attorneys in winning a decision from the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in favor of Diana Rwigara and her mother — pro bono clients who had been held as prisoners of conscience by the Rwandan government. The Working Group found that Ms. Rwigara had been deprived of her liberty for challenging the incumbent president in a bid to become Rwanda’s first female president and for voicing political opposition against the government’s human rights practices.
Mr. Habash’s achievements were featured by The National Law Journal in an article published on July 24.
