Maria Tan Pedersen Appointed to Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre Council

December 16, 2020

Maria Tan Pedersen, corporate partner at Dechert’s Singapore office, has been appointed to the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) Council.

One of the foremost global dispute resolution organizations, the HKIAC specializes in arbitration, mediation, adjudication and domain name dispute resolution. The Council is the principal governing body of the HKIAC, responsible for its corporate governance and overall management. The Council’s 24 members include legal practitioners, in-house counsel, academics, arbitrators, judges and non-legal professionals.

“We’re seeing a marked increase in new cross-border, multi-jurisdictional transactions and M&A clients at Dechert,” said Ms. Pedersen “And with many of those companies expressing an interest in alternative dispute resolution, I’m keen to share their needs and preferences with the HKIAC to help maintain its role as a leading global arbitral institution, and support its efforts to make end-users more aware of the cost- and time-saving tools and measures it offers to secure assets and enforce awards.”

Ms. Pedersen joined Dechert’s corporate and securities team in Singapore in January 2020, strengthening the firm’s capabilities in Asia. In addition to her new appointment, she advises on international and domestic M&A, joint ventures, projects, capital markets and financing transactions, as well as cross-border disputes. Ms. Pedersen has extensive experience advising private and public corporates, ultra-high net worth individuals, and governments in more than 35 countries worldwide and has practiced in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific.
