Dechert LLP continues to dominate as a leading advisor to sovereign issuers across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), with a string of successful issuances in the region.

In the latest transaction, Dechert advised the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in connection with the issuance of its US$500 million 4.950% Notes due 2025 and US$1.25 billion 5.850% Notes due 2030. Citigroup Global Markets Limited, Goldman Sachs International and HSBC Bank plc acted as Joint Bookrunners and the Notes are listed on the London Stock Exchange. Lion’s Head Global Partners acted as Financial Adviser to the Kingdom.

This transaction follows Dechert’s successful completion of two other significant sovereign transactions in the region amounting to US$7 billion in total, acting on behalf of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Dechert’s core team advising Jordan consisted of partner Patrick Lyons, of counsel Camille Abousleiman and associates Nick Quarrie and Amy Rees.

“The Kingdom’s latest transaction further demonstrates the resilience of the capital market in the MENA region in the face of the twin shocks caused by COVID-19 and the low oil price environment. Dechert is proud to have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Jordan and to have brought this transaction to a successful completion,” says Patrick Lyons.

Dechert’s international capital markets team has a longstanding track record advising on complex, innovative capital markets transactions in the emerging markets and is a leading practice in the representation of sovereigns from the MENA region.
