Financial Times Again Recognizes Dechert Among the Most Innovative Law Firms in Asia-Pacific
Dechert LLP has again been recognized for innovation and legal excellence in the Financial Times’ Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards, which assess firms on the practice and business of law and on staying ahead of critical trends in the legal profession.
Dechert was again recognized among the Most Innovative Law Firms in Asia-Pacific, this year ranking first among U.S.-headquartered firms and eighth overall in the FT’s Law Firm Index, which assesses firms’ innovation, digital maturity, policies towards people and corporate responsibility.
Dechert also ranked first among U.S.-headquartered firms for its policies towards people.
Singapore-based corporate partner Maria Tan Pedersen was recognized the FT’s Top 10 Most Innovative Legal Practitioners in Asia-Pacific for driving a string of novel deals, such as the first REIT listing in the Philippines, the first large-scale cross-border deSPAC merger in Asia and the complex cross-border sale of Asia-owned Lexmark International to Xerox Corp., a U.S. public company.
Dechert teams led by Ms. Pedersen and with Singapore-based counsel David Good and associate Drew Singer also won recognition for two notable deals in the “Innovation in Infrastructure” category:
HIGHLY COMMENDED – for advising the Asian Development Bank on the complex privatization of the Philippines’ CBK hydroelectric plants, reconfiguring a public tender mid-stream to unlock green-energy tariff advantages while preserving competitive integrity. The solution generated substantial additional value for the Philippine state and created a template for advancing clean‑energy policy through the privatization of legacy power assets.
COMMENDED – for successfully surmounting multiple cultural, business and legal challenges to drive the transformation of Singapore’s TIS Petroleum from energy trader to upstream operator through its acquisition of a stake in Indonesia’s Sebuku offshore gas block from the UAE’s Mubadala Energy.
The Financial Times consistently ranks Dechert among the most innovative law firms in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, and recently ranked the firm among its Top 20 “Most Innovative Global Law Firms” of the past 20 years.
Law firms and lawyers recognized by the Financial Times were honored in a ceremony held at the Asia Society in Hong Kong on May 14.
