Drew Bencie

Drew Bencie defends clients in product liability matters across a range of industries including food, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products. Mr. Bencie has been involved in various stages of litigation defense, from case assessment, development, and pretrial proceedings to case resolution and claims management. He has experience with affirmative and defensive aspects of fact and expert discovery, including taking and defending depositions of parties and experts. He has also briefed Rule 702 and dispositive motions in federal court.

Mr. Bencie is a member of Dechert's nationally recognized team of product liability and mass tort lawyers, ranked as a leading firm for Nationwide Product Liability & Mass Torts: The Elite by Chambers USA and named Litigation Department of the Year for Product Liability by New York Law Journal for five consecutive years.

Mr. Bencie maintains an active pro bono practice with an emphasis on prisoner and detainee civil rights litigation matters. Mr. Bencie is a two-time recipient of the firm’s Samuel E. Klein Pro Bono award for exceptional commitment to providing pro bono legal services.

Mr. Bencie is managing editor of the product liability and mass torts group’s newsletter, Dechert Re:Torts.

Mr. Bencie joined Dechert as a summer associate in 2020. Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Bencie was an intern with the Cape May County District Attorney’s Office and the Compass Center for Women and Families. In law school, Mr. Bencie was a student attorney in the country’s first Critical Race Lawyering Civil Rights Clinic and served as a comments editor on the North Carolina Law Review.
