May Chiang is a senior associate in Dechert’s Trials, Investigations, and Securities group. She represents clients in complex commercial disputes and multinational litigation before federal and state courts, and has litigated cases at both the trial and appellate levels.  She has also assisted clients in internal investigations, government investigations, and commercial arbitrations.

Ms. Chiang maintains an active pro bono practice.  She acts as lead counsel for a group of private plaintiffs in a voting rights suit against the New York City Board of Elections, where she won preliminary injunctive relief after a lengthy oral argument and continues to oversee the City’s compliance with a court-ordered consent decree.  She also successfully argued a cross-motion for summary judgment in a civil liberties case before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Ms. Chiang is a recipient of Dechert’s 2017 Exceptional Teacher Award, which honors the most proactive lawyers who have dedicated their time to training and developing the firm’s associates.  Ms. Chiang has also served on the firmwide Associates’ Committee, and is active in Dechert’s Asian American Affinity Group and Global Women’s Initiative.

Before joining Dechert, Ms. Chiang clerked for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, practiced communications law at a leading Washington, D.C. firm, and served as a legal intern at the Office of White Counsel.  In 2014, Ms. Chiang was included in the 2014 Lawyers of Color Hot List for the Mid-Atlantic Region, which recognizes early to mid-career attorneys of color excelling in the legal profession.
