Avni Patel

Avni Patel is a counsel in Dechert’s global finance practice and is based in New York. Ms. Patel represents banks and other financial institutions, including many prominent non-bank private lenders across the private credit space in a wide range of complex financing transactions, including first and second lien credit facilities; middle market and large cap financings; and both cross-border and domestic acquisition financings. She also advises on leveraged lending; direct and syndicated lending; unitranche and first out/last out financings; structured financial arrangements; asset-based lending and debt restructuring transactions. 

Ms. Patel has significant experience representing private credit direct lenders in loans to public companies, privately-owned companies and portfolio companies of various private equity sponsors. She also has significant experience advising on opportunities in existing credits and bespoke credit structures for stressed and distressed companies.

Ms. Patel has been recognized as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for 2023-2024.

Prior to joining Dechert, Ms. Patel was a banking and finance associate at another international law firm.

  • A direct lender as agent and lender in connection with US$420 million term loan and revolving loan credit facility to a large ice supplier, portions of which were used to refinance existing debt.
  • A direct lender as agent and lender in connection with US$50 million debtor-in-possession term loan credit facility to a national staffing company.
  • A direct lender as agent and lender in connection with US$100 million super senior term loan credit facility, portions of which were used to refinance certain existing indebtedness of an international automotive supply company.
  • A direct lender as agent and lender in connection with US$162.5 million term loan credit facility, portions of which were used to refinance certain existing indebtedness of a data processing company as part of a drop down transaction.
  • A sovereign wealth fund as agent and lender in connection with US$200 million second lien term loan credit facility to an international farming products company.
  • A direct lender as lead  arranger and bookrunner in connection with US$500 million term loan and revolving loan syndicated credit facility, portions of which were used to finance the acquisition of certain pharmaceutical assets.
  • A direct lender as agent and lender in connection with US$200 million first lien term loan credit facility to a large international videogame company, portions of which were used to refinance existing debt.
  • A direct lender as agent and lender in connection with US$25 million holdco loan credit facility, portions of which were used to fund a preferred equity investment of a premium food company.
