Kathleen Massey Named Managing Partner for Dechert’s New York Office

Global specialist law firm Dechert announced today that Kathleen Massey will assume the role of Office Managing Partner for the firm’s New York office on July 1. Massey replaces Thomas Munno, who has served in the role since 1994.
New York is the largest of the firm’s 27 offices with more than 200 attorneys.
“Kathleen is an excellent choice to succeed Tom as she is a thoughtful and dedicated leader,” said Dechert CEO Daniel O’Donnell.
Massey, who joined the firm as a partner in 2003, will also continue to practice actively in the firm’s litigation group. She focuses on high-profile securities and commercial litigation matters involving allegations of fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and related wrongdoing. Massey has represented public and private companies, as well as directors and officers, in cases brought in federal and state courts, as both class and individual actions, and in domestic and international arbitration proceedings and mediations. She has tried civil matters and argued appeals in federal court; she has handled numerous arbitrations and investigations; and she regularly advises clients on litigation-related risks inherent in corporate transactions. Additionally, she is active in the firm’s hiring, associate development, diversity and women’s initiatives.

Munno, who is retiring after 26 years with the firm, played a significant role in the firm’s New York expansion, as well as the relocation to 1095 Avenue of the Americas.
“Tom put a lot of time, worry and effort into shepherding our office from a total build out to the move in, and he has continued to manage the office with his own special gusto and zest for the job,” said Dechert chairman Andrew J. Levander. “We thank him for his many years of service.”
