"Gratitude is a powerful thing,” said Dechert's former-Chair Andy Levander. “A meaningful ‘thank you’ makes people on both sides of that conversation feel good, so we wanted to help people make a regular habit of gratitude.”

Dechert has designed gratitude cards to let anyone send a personal note of thanks via email or inter-office mail to any colleague anywhere in the world. There is also an option for employees to share their cards on our intranet homepage, where a revolving display of recent cards keeps recognition visible and ongoing.

Our people cannot achieve their fullest potential – and deliver exceptional client service – without taking the time to invest in and rejuvenate themselves. Dechert is dedicated to promoting a healthy integration of work and personal life through our THRIVE@Dechert Framework. This framework focuses on the physical, mental, emotional and financial well-being of our people. We provide access to resources such as: online fitness programs, tele-medicine assistance for both physical and mental health, as well as webinars and virtual support groups on a variety of topics. Every year, Dechert's global community participates in Well-being Week. It's a great time to support each other and embrace healthier living habits. Some of our activities have included a "what brings you joy" photo contest, a global steps challenge, a guided meditation session and a financial well-being seminar. We also offer family-building and fertility support through Carrot, which provides personalized, expert support for colleagues exploring fertility health, pursuing parenthood, already pregnant, going through menopause or managing low testosterone.

We Celebrate and Receive Recognition for Innovative Ideas

We take great pride in the innovative ideas and approaches that our people take, whether in relation to client work, the client experience or internally supporting our business operations. It is important that we acknowledge and recognize our people for their contributions, and we do this in a variety of ways. 

Our Innovation Certificate Program encourages lawyers and business service professionals to question how they think, work and lead — and equips them to foster an opportunity mindset, act as Innovation Ambassadors across the firm, and turn bold ideas into action.

Annually, we recognize the efforts and accomplishments of our people who are making a difference on the innovation front through our Innovator Award, but the recognition doesn’t stop there. Our firmwide STARS Awards, a peer-nominated program, also honors an Innovator each year alongside its other recognition categories. Members of the Innovation Certificate Program are all recognized for their commitment to innovation when they pitch their ideas to the chief executives across the firm. The firm has a network of Innovation Ambassadors who are featured in articles, interviews and the like for their contributions to the firm and our clients on this front.

During our annual Diversity and Inclusion Week, all members of our community are invited to participate in a variety of engaging and enlightening events to celebrate Dechert’s culture of inclusion. Past activities include a Trivia Without Borders competition, Perspectives in Harmony playlist built from song submissions by employees, celebrating diverse cuisines with catered lunches in our offices, and a mosaic of employee-submitted photos to celebrate our long history of excellence through inclusion.

Each year we come together to celebrate the anniversary of Dechert's founding in 1875. It offers us an opportunity to learn about our firm’s history, celebrate where we are today and look ahead to where we’re going.

Dechert hosts a number of fun activities with colleagues as part of Birthday Week. Recent celebrations have included an interactive quiz on Dechert’s history, opportunities to take part in Dechert Days of Service around the world, a Prize Bonanza giving colleagues the chance to win a range of giveaways, and a keepsake book celebrating the firm’s history, heritage and culture to all employees.

We also hold a special celebration each year to honor our Quarter Century Club members, recognizing colleagues who have reached 25 years of service with the firm.
