International Financial Law Review Honors Dechert for Leadership in Real Estate Finance

May 15, 2025

Dechert LLP’s global finance team has been recognized for leadership and professional excellence by the International Financial Law Review at the IFLR Americas Awards 2025.

In the “Securitization and Structured Finance Team of the Year” category, Dechert was named winner for driving the first Canadian-dollar floating-rate single-asset single-borrower (SASB) loan jointly offered in the United States and Canada.

A Dechert team led by partners David Forti, Justin Gdula and Stewart McQueen and with counsel Bill Lee acted as lender’s counsel to Citibank and Royal Bank of Canada as mortgage loan sellers providing a C$522.5 million loan to Pure Industrial, a Blackstone-owned Canadian real estate investment trust. Dechert also acted on the securitization of the loan, which created a template for future Canadian-dollar SASB securities issuances.

Dechert was additionally honored as the Pure Industrial loan and securitization was named winner in the “Securitization and Structured Finance Deal of the Year” category.

Dechert lawyers and their achievements also featured in several other categories in the IFLR Americas Awards:

  • A Dechert matter - the Abra Group refinancing, in which partner Allan Brilliant led a financial restructuring team acting as lead adviser to the ad hoc group of secured bondholders of Abra, GOL’s parent - was named a finalist for “Loan Deal of the Year.”
  • Dechert’s restructuring team also acted as U.S. counsel to Portugal’s Banco BTG Pactual, one of the largest creditors in the restructuring of Lojas Americanas, which was named a finalist for “Restructuring Deal of the Year.” Mr. Brilliant also led that team.
  • Dechert itself was named a “Firm of the Year” finalist for Pennsylvania for the firm’s recent achievements in the state.

Firms and lawyers recognized in the IFLR Americas Awards were honored at a ceremony held in New York on May 14.
