American Bar Association Honors Dechert with National Public Service Award
Dechert’s firmwide pro bono program has been recognized by the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section with a National Public Service Award 2020. The award honors the firm’s extraordinary and sustained commitment to pro bono service.
The ABA initiated the National Public Service Award series in 1994 to honor significant pro bono contributions made by law firms, corporate law departments and individual lawyers.
Dechert litigation partner Eric Brunstad was recognized as an individual National Public Service Award recipient in 2019. At the time, the ABA praised Brunstad’s pro bono representations of numerous parties in bankruptcy-related appellate matters.
This year, Dechert was nominated by Exponentum, a consortium of business and transactional pro bono providers across the United States. Exponentum partners with law firms and corporations to implement national responses to challenges faced by the nonprofit sector by delivering expert legal assistance and educational programs to nonprofits.
The consortium praised the commitment shown by Dechert lawyers in donating their expertise in a wide range of corporate and transactional areas to benefit nonprofit organizations and low-income entrepreneurs. Consortium members maintained that Dechert’s pro bono activities stand out not only for their volume and geographic scope but also in the complexity of the matters the firm takes on.
