LendIt Fintech Names Dechert Among Top Law Firms in Its 2020 Awards
Dechert LLP has been named among the top five law firms for fintech in the fourth annual LendIt Fintech Industry Awards 2020, which were established to celebrate outstanding achievement by influencers and innovators in the fintech industry.
Dechert was one of a handful of firms named to the shortlist in the “Top Law Firm” category, which was presented to the firm that best demonstrated deep expertise, commitment to clients and the fostering of a deeper understanding of fintech. The publication received more than 500 nominations.
Dechert’s fintech team helps established and emerging tech clients navigate and adapt to the financial services regulatory environment. Clients include companies, platforms, technologists, investment managers and funds, banks, broker-dealers, exchanges and private equity and venture capital investors. The firm works extensively with alternative trading systems, high-frequency and algorithmic trading firms, digital investment advisers, data companies and other financial services innovators.
Last year, Dechert helped Figure Technologies in securing a US$1 billion blockchain financing facility from Jefferies to finance home equity lines of credit. The facility is located on Provenance.io, a blockchain platform developed to originate, finance and sell Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOCs) to banks, asset managers and credit funds.
Shortly after, the firm advised Figure Technologies on a US$20 million security token offering completed by Provenance Blockchain, Inc., the administrator for Provenance.io. The transaction marked a major milestone in the adoption of blockchain technology by the financial services industry. The Reg D private placement included broad participation from both blockchain and traditional technology investors.
In December 2019, the Financial Times ranked the Dechert team advising Figure Technologies, which was led by partners Ralph Mazzeo and Timothy Spangler, as “Highly Commended” in its Innovative Lawyers Awards for North America. Mr. Spangler was personally commended by the FT, while Figure Technologies’ legal team was also “Commended.”
Dechert lawyers are frequent authors on issues regarding developments in fintech. The firm also runs a Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Tracker to provide clients with news and analysis regarding the rapidly changing cryptocurrency landscape. The Tracker has more than 2,000 subscribers and the web page features a selection of resources, including legal updates and event recordings.
Winners in the LendIt Fintech Industry Awards 2020 were announced online on September 28.
