Legal Aid Society of New York Honors Dechert for Pro Bono Commitment
Dechert’s firmwide pro bono program was recognized by the Legal Aid Society of New York at its Pro Bono Publico Awards 2023 with The Honorable Jonathan Lippman New York Pro Bono Publico & Public Service Law Firm Award.
Since 2015, this award has been presented annually to the law firm whose exceptional pro bono commitment to the Legal Aid Society and its clients has furthered the goal of “making equal justice for all not just an ideal, but truly a reality in New York.” The firms recognized were nominated by Legal Aid staff in every borough for their exceptional commitment to ensure that no New Yorker is denied the right to equal justice.
Over the past two years, Dechert has demonstrated this commitment by contributing nearly 7,000 hours of legal services to Legal Aid and its clients. The firm's staff provided critical assistance to clients in every area of Legal Aid Society practice, including preserving public benefits with the Civil Practice, fighting for the rights of families with the Juvenile Rights Practice, and providing outstanding appellate advocacy with the Criminal Defense Practice.
Chief Judge Rowan Wilson of the New York Court of Appeals presented the award at the Legal Aid Society’s Annual Ceremony on October 30. Dechert co-chair Mark Thierfelder and partner Mauricio Espana accepted the award on the firm’s behalf.
