The United Nations endorsed the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in 2011, spurring multinational companies to adopt internal systems to understand and manage their human rights risk. Developing these systems and implementing them in practice has raised a number of legal questions for in-house lawyers, many of who are now turning to outside counsel for guidance.

As the International Bar Association recently summarized, “There are few areas of legal practice for which the Guiding Principles—and the human rights standards they reference—are not potentially relevant. And companies are increasingly requesting that their legal counsel provide advice that takes potential human rights risks into account as part of their broader management of legal risks.”

This CLE accredited workshop will review current practices in the emerging field of business and human rights, and share examples of court rulings and legislation driving the field as related to a wide range of practice areas through interactive presentation and case study discussions.

CLE credit is pending in CA, CT, IL, NC, NJ, NY, PA and TX.
