Dechert LLP is serving as legal advisor to long-time client SK hynix Inc., a Korean memory chip maker, on its role in the acquisition of Japan-based Toshiba Corporation’s NAND flash memory and solid-state drive business.
Toshiba is currently the world's No. 2 producer of NAND flash chips. NAND flash is storage technology that does not require power to retain data, therefore reducing cost per bit and increasing chip capacity in order to be more competitive with magnetic storage devices (i.e. hard disks).
This transaction is led by Hong-Kong based corporate partner David Cho and included partners John Markland, Robert Bradshaw and Stephen Leitzell (Corporate); partner Dean Collins (Financial Services); partners Michael Weiner and Alec Burnside and counsel Jill Ross (Antitrust/Competition); partner Andrew Wong (Litigation); partner Joshua Rawson and national partner Violetta Kokolus (Intellectual Property); and associates Iris Park, Jieun Paik, C.J. Ciarrocchi and Zhenghui Wang (Corporate); Derek Brader and Noah Shier (Intellectual Property); and Marjolein De Backer (Antitrust/Competition).
