Dechert LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Stephen Surgeoner has joined as a litigation partner in London. Surgeoner was previously a litigation and dispute resolution partner at Clifford Chance.

“Stephen is a strong addition to Dechert’s London-based litigation team,” said Matthew Larrabee, chair of Dechert’s litigation practice. “His broad experience in litigation and arbitration will make him a valuable resource to clients in London and globally.”

Surgeoner is noted as a “standout individual” who “is redoubtable and resilient, with the ability to get to the heart of a dispute and secure a successful result” in the 2016 edition of The Legal 500 UK, where he is ranked as a leading individual for insurance and reinsurance litigation. He is also recognized in Chambers Global 2017 and Chambers UK 2017 as a leading lawyer for UK-wide insurance. He has more than two decades of experience advising clients on all forms of commercial dispute resolution, with a focus on the banking, funds, insurance, energy and telecommunications industries. He assists clients in the United Kingdom and globally with high-value, cross-jurisdictional complex commercial litigation, mediation, investigations and domestic and international arbitration.

“I have been looking forward to joining Dechert and helping to grow its litigation bench,” Surgeoner said. “I am thrilled with the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the firm's continued success.”

A graduate of Trinity Hall, Cambridge (B.A., 1991), Surgeoner is admitted in England and Wales and Ireland.
