Financial Times Honors Dechert for Innovation in Europe

October 05, 2018

Dechert LLP’s innovation has been commended by the Financial Times in its Innovative Lawyers 2018 report for Europe, which combines the FT’s journalism with independent research carried out by specialist researcher RSG Consulting.

The FT consistently ranks Dechert among the world’s most innovative law firms.

Dechert was commended in this year’s European Innovative Lawyer awards in the “Accessing new markets and capital” category for advising the Bank of Georgia on its first corporate bond issued in Georgian lari. Led by Louise Roman and Jennifer Rees, the Dechert team surmounted novel issues to structure the transaction, the first-ever issuance of lari-denominated debt securities into the international capital markets.

Dechert was also commended in the “Managing complexity and scale” category for leading a consultative process on measures governing payments for asset-management investment research after proposals contained in Europe’s MiFID II regulatory regime appeared to set EU regulations at odds with many non-EU jurisdictions. Dechert’s work on the generation and use of investment research, published in association with the Investment Association, helped resolve uncertainty across the industry. London partner Monica Gogna, who led the initiative, was personally commended for her leadership.

The FT also commended the firm for its Brexit Impact Analysis, a free-to-use online tool developed by London partner Miriam Gonzalez and senior director Richard Tauwhare. The tool, suited to any private-sector entity operating in the UK or the EU27, provides a snapshot view to general counsel and boards of directors on the areas in which their businesses may be most affected by Brexit and their levels of contingency planning and preparedness.

Results and rankings in the Financial Times awards were announced at a ceremony at London’s Natural History Museum on October 4.
