Vincent Cohen Named an MCCA Rainmaker for 2019

March 18, 2019

Dechert white collar partner Vincent Cohen has been honored by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) as a recipient of its Rainmaker Awards, which recognize talented diverse attorneys who have achieved success through innovative, consistent and proactive business development.

The MCCA celebrates the diversity of the winners’ race and ethnicities, gender, sexual orientation, and generational differences, as well as the diversity in their practice areas and career paths. MCCA Rainmakers have books of business exceeding $5 million annually and have contributed significantly to their communities.

Cohen, an experienced trial lawyer and investigator, represents clients in sensitive government and internal investigations, government enforcement matters and complex civil and criminal litigation on a domestic and international scale. Recognized by Chambers USA as a leading D.C. lawyer for white collar crime and government investigations, he also leads Dechert’s Black Lawyers Alliance and has worked to promote and safeguard a comprehensive commitment to diversity since joining Dechert in 2016.

As former Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and a member of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee under Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Cohen’s authority on federal issues touched the entire United States, yet his responsibilities also embraced local difficulties in the District of Columbia. The two arenas overlapped as he worked to develop a community-focused approach in order to reduce violent crime in the D.C. metropolitan area.

Cohen’s community-first mindset has remained a motivating force since his return to private practice. He was recently invited to join the D.C. Attorney General’s Advisory Committee and also sits on The Innocence Project’s lawyers committee. He remains active in 100 Black Men of America (which he once served as General Counsel), helping promote empowerment programs among minority youth in D.C. He is currently an elected Board Member of the Washington Bar Association, one of the country’s oldest African-American bar associations, and is active in other civic organizations such as the National Bar Association and the National Black Prosecutor’s Association. At Syracuse University, his alma mater, he sits on both the Chancellor’s Advisory Board and the Office of Multicultural Advancement Advisory Council.

The 2019 MCCA Rainmakers will be honored at the MCCA 2019 Global TEC Forum in San Francisco on April 5, and will be featured in the 2019 Spring issue of Diversity & the Bar® magazine.
