Dechert Advises American Express Global Business Travel on the Acquisition of DER Touristik Business Travel Division
Dechert LLP has advised American Express Global Business Travel (GBT) on the proposed acquisition of the business travel chain DER Business Travel, part of REWE Group owned DER Touristik Central Europe. The completion of the acquisition is conditioned on receipt of antitrust approvals and other customary conditions.
GBT is a world leading business partner for managed travel with 17,000 travel professionals in more than 140 countries. The purchase is designed to expand GBT’s footprint into Germany’s small and mid-sized clients sector. DER Business Travel’s offering would be enhanced by GBT’s international scale and global network. In addition, DER Business Travel’s corporate clients would have access to GBT’s travel and expense ecosystem and core technology platform.
The cross-border Dechert team advising on this transaction was led by corporate partner Giovanni Russo in Munich. The full team included corporate national partners Carina Klaes-Staudt and Dr. Karl von Rumohr in Munich, partner Stephen Leitzell in Philadelphia and associates Florian Leitsbach, Sonja Feser, and Julia Keller in Munich. Additionally, the team included antitrust partner Clemens Graf York von Wartenburg, based in Frankfurt and Brussels, and associates Thirith von Döhren in Frankfurt and Michael Okkonen in Brussels, and compliance partner Darshak Dholakia in Washington, D.C.
