Dechert LLP has appointed London Head of Disputes Dorothy Cory-Wright to its London Management Committee.
Ms. Cory-Wright joins London Management Committee Chairman and financial services partner Gus Black, employment partner Jason Butwick and corporate partner Chris Field on the committee, which has responsibility for operational leadership of the global law firm’s third largest office.
Ms. Cory-Wright joined Dechert in July 2018 from another international firm, where she served as head of the London disputes practice and co-leader of the global commercial disputes and litigation practice. A former barrister and now solicitor advocate, her practice focuses on complex, multi-jurisdictional and high-value commercial litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution matters and contentious regulatory issues. She has extensive experience leading investigations, monitorships and litigation arising from insolvencies and restructuring and from complex financial products.
Ms. Cory-Wright recently led the Dechert team supporting the former Court of Appeal judge, the Rt. Hon. Dame Elizabeth Gloster DBE in her independent investigation into the Financial Conduct Authority’s regulation and oversight of London Capital & Finance Plc, whose collapse impacted over 11,000 retail investors who had invested over £230 million. Her experience also includes advising the Monitor of HSBC over five years, appointed under a Deferred Prosecution Agreement and for the Section 166 Skilled Person’s Review of HSBC’s global business.
In addition to her experience in the financial services sector, Ms. Cory-Wright regularly advises clients in the re/insurance, manufacturing energy and life sciences sectors. She sits on a number of Dechert committees including its Global Women’s Initiative, which delivers an award-winning program of training and mentoring for associates at all levels.
Dechert’s London office Chairman Gus Black says, “Dorothy has made a significant contribution to our business since she joined the firm and we look forward to working with her as part of the leadership team to develop and grow Dechert in London.”
Ms. Cory-Wright added, “There couldn’t be a better time to join the leadership of Dechert’s hugely successful business in London, where we lead on an increasing number of first-rate global disputes and transactional mandates. I very much welcome the opportunity to contribute to the opportunities ahead.”
Dechert’s London office has circa 320 people including circa 50 partners whom cover the breadth of the firm’s global practice areas including corporate & securities, finance and real estate, financial restructuring, financial services, employment benefits and executive compensation, global tax, intellectual property and litigation.
