Video: M&A Practice Is Booming & Likely to Continue

Dechert partner and M&A veteran Bill Lawlor recently spoke with Bloomberg Law regarding M&A trends and developments. Mr. Lawlor described today’s M&A environment and what he sees as driving activity levels in the short-, medium-, and long-term, such as:

  • the expiration of Bush tax cuts in the short-term
  • a retreat from the fiscal cliff, a stabilization in Europe and improved CEO confidence levels in the medium-term
  • a confluence of M&A technical factors including relatively low price/earnings ratios and cost of capital, a backlog of private equity portfolio companies for sale, a predictable regulatory and tax environment, and cash
  • flush corporate balance sheets and private equity funds, as creating a more M&A friendly environment in the long-term
