Mark Browne focuses his practice on the structuring, establishment and operation of investment funds in Ireland, including UCITS and alternative investment funds. He has fifteen years of experience in the funds industry and has worked in a number of the key global centers. This international experience is of particular assistance when advising international managers familiar with offshore structures, as well as with regard to the redomiciliation of offshore funds to Ireland and the restructuring of hedge funds as UCITS.

Mr. Browne also advises on issues affecting clients throughout the financial sector, including MiFID, data protection (including the GDPR), anti-money laundering regulations, emoney and payment systems, distance selling and internet-based products and investments. He also has experience advising on issues affecting service providers such as administrators, custodians, prime brokers, distributors and investment managers.

Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Browne was a partner in the financial services practice of a leading Irish law firm. He previously worked in the funds practice of a leading Cayman Islands firm where he focused on hedge funds, as well as for a global custodian based in Luxembourg.

Recent representations by Mr. Browne include advising a range of asset managers and service providers on the launch and ongoing operations of UCITS and QIAIFs as well as on legal issues pertaining to the asset management industry in Europe generally, including GDPR and Brexit.

Mr. Browne is a frequent author and speaker and is recommended as a leading investment funds lawyer by The Legal 500, Chambers Europe and Chambers Global. The 2017 edition of Chambers Global notes that he garners significant praise for launching UCITS funds and ICAVs, as well as handling the relevant regulatory issues with clients describing him as "terrific: he is responsive, almost always available and knowledgeable." The 2016 edition of Chambers Global states that Mr. Browne offers wide experience advising global managers on UCITS and AIF structures with clients noting "the amount of attention he gave us was outstanding," praising his "knowledge of how to get the deal done, and his great end product." The 2015 edition of Chambers Europe notes that he "draws broad praise for his experience of investment fund matters relating to the Cayman Islands, alongside his growing strength in the Irish market." 

He was named as 'Investment Fund Formation Lawyer of the Year in Ireland' in the Corporate International Magazine Global Awards, 2017 and 'Investment Management Lawyer of the Year in Ireland' by the Lawyer International 's Legal 100 Awards in 2018.

Mr. Browne is vice chairman of the Irish Funds Industry Association's marketing/promotion industry events working group and as well as a member of the Legal and Regulatory group.
