Derek Runyan

Derek Runyan advises on structured finance and securitization transactions, with a particular focus on commercial real estate collateralized loan obligations (CRE CLOs). He represents investment banks, commercial banks, commercial mortgage REITs and private equity funds in securitizations and other financings backed by commercial real estate assets and securities.

Mr. Runyan’s practice encompasses CRE CLOs, private commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) transactions, CRE repurchase and warehouse facilities, and loan-on-loan financings. He advises clients in their capacities as issuers, underwriters, loan purchasers, servicers, borrowers and lenders. His CMBS experience includes large single-asset, single-borrower (SASB) securitizations of trophy commercial real estate assets.

Mr. Runyan regularly advises on bespoke and first-of-their-kind CRE financings. His experience includes structured repurchase facilities for risk retention securities, private placements of loan portfolios, credit risk transfer financings, land banking financings and re-REMIC securitizations of legacy agency-sponsored CMBS.

He also has extensive experience representing single-family residential (SFR) owners and operators, as well as commercial and investment banks, in SFR securitizations. His work includes assisting new issuers in establishing their securitization platforms.
