Stephania C. Sanon

Stephania C. Sanon is an employment and labor lawyer who serves as a strategic advisor to public and private companies on complex employment and labor matters. She has extensive experience advising on the employment aspects of M&A transactions, including overseeing due diligence, negotiating executive employment agreements and separation arrangements, and counseling on risk mitigation and post-closing integration.

Ms. Sanon regularly advises public and private companies on executive onboarding and separations, conducts investigations into complaints of sexual harassment, discrimination and other workplace misconduct, and advises on diversity and inclusion initiatives and pay equity matters, including their implications for ESG reporting and corporate governance.

Her practice also encompasses a broad range of day-to-day employment counseling matters such as terminations, discipline, exempt/non-exempt classification, independent contractor classification, reductions in force, restrictive covenants, union organizing, disability and religious accommodations, leave management and the development and enforcement of various workplace policies. Ms. Sanon represents employers in administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and National Labor Relations Board, and their state and local counterparts.

Ms. Sanon is an active member of the New York City Bar Association and the Metropolitan Black Bar Association.

While in law school, she was a contributor to the Florida State University Business Review. She also served as an agency intern for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board and the Queens District Attorney’s Office. After graduating from law school, she interned for the Honorable Patty Shwartz, U.S. Magistrate Judge, District of New Jersey.

  • Advised private equity sponsors, closely held businesses and public companies on the employment and labor aspects of domestic and cross-border transactions across industries including healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, food and beverage, professional services and entertainment.
  • Secured dismissals of various charges of discrimination, harassment and retaliation filed against clients at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, New York State Division of Human Rights and New York City Commission on Human Rights.*
  • Successfully defended national company in audit proceedings before the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), resulting in no violations.*
  • Defended numerous clients against website accessibility claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act and correlating state and local statutes.*
  • Defended client in audit of compliance with New York City Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) resulting in a resolution consisting of minimal violations and reduced fine.*
  • Defended client against transgender discrimination charge in administrative proceedings resulting in successful resolution.*
