John M. Timperio, a partner in Dechert's global finance practice, has more than 20 years of experience advising issuers, commercial and investment banks, financial guarantors and others on securitization and various types of restructurings. Mr. Timperio's practice focuses on asset-backed securitization (ABS), collateral manager mergers and acquisitions, structured lending, workouts and collateral loan obligation (CLO) transactions.

He has been extensively involved in the development of the middle-market CLO sector, including having represented the placement agent in the first ever rated middle-market CLO comprised entirely of unrated mezzanine and subordinated loans. Most recently, he represented the lead lenders to Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) in the acquisition of GE Capital’s sponsor lending business, including Antares Capital, and represented the largest middle-market structured lending transaction to date.

Mr. Timperio has been a leader on assisting clients with all manner of risk retention solutions, including working with a number of the world’s largest asset managers on establishing new management companies and manager affiliates. He is also a frequent author and speaker on the topic of CLOs and risk retention. 

He is ranked as a leading lawyer for Securitization by Chambers USA and a recommended lawyer for Structured Finance in The Legal 500 (U.S.). In addition, Mr. Timperio has been ranked in The Best Lawyers in America as a leading lawyer in banking and finance law since 2012.

He also co-authored “Securitizers Take a Second Look at Asset Based Loans,” which appeared in the Guide to the World's Leading Structured Finance and Securitization Lawyers, published by Legal Media Group in conjunction with the International Financial Law Review. For numerous years he co-authored an annual update on the state of the middle-market CLO market for Asset Securitization Report. He is frequently called on to lecture on the subject of securitization.
