Two Dechert Partners Honored as Best of the Bar by the Philadelphia Business Journal

October 03, 2017
Dechert LLP partners David W. Forti and Martin J. Black have been named honorees by the Philadelphia Business Journal in its inaugural Best of the Bar Awards 2017. Nominated lawyers based in Pennsylvania or nearby counties were assessed on their achievements from the past year, including the business or legal significance of their matters, the size of the results and the business impact of their work.

Forti, a Philadelphia-based global finance partner and member of Dechert’s Policy Committee, has developed one of the biggest books of business in commercial real estate finance, with a specialty in large loans destined for commercial real estate securitization. Consistently recognized by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 (U.S.), he runs the large loan team at Dechert, one of the most successful teams of large loan origination experts in the country.

Black, a Philadelphia-based intellectual property litigator, founded Dechert’s IP litigation group and built it into a nationally recognized practice. Last year, he argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in SCA v. First Quality, a case relating to infringement of a patent on adult diapers, persuading the Court to put an end to the 100-year old doctrine of laches in patent cases. In a 7-1 decision issued on March 21, 2017, the Court revoked an entire defense, a rarity in the law.

Honorees will recognized on October 24 at Philadelphia’s Ballroom at the Ben and will be featured in a special section of the Philadelphia Business Journal on October 25.
