LexisNexis Recognizes Dechert Pro Bono Achievements

March 12, 2020

Dechert LLP has been honored at the LexisNexis Legal Awards 2020 for the work of an international pro bono team in helping win the release of Mohammed Ould Mkhaitir, a Mauritanian blogger condemned to death for apostasy.

The Dechert team was led by London partner Paul Kavanagh and Paris-based national partner Marie Fillon. The representation formed part of Dechert’s wider partnership with Freedom Now, a Washington, D.C.-based human rights organization chaired by Dechert partner Jeremy Zucker that seeks the release of prisoners of conscience around the world.

Dechert was selected as winner in the “Pro Bono Award” category and in addition was named a finalist in “The Halsbury Award for Rule of Law” category, which recognizes commitment to the advancement of fairness and justice.

The firm’s work for Ares in a landmark £1 billion direct lending deal for the Daisy Group was also shortlisted in the “Deal of the Year” category.

Winners were announced at a dinner ceremony at the Sheraton Grand on London’s Park Lane on March 11.
