Euromoney Honors Dechert’s Maria Pedersen as Equity Capital Markets Lawyer of the Year

Singapore-based Dechert LLP corporate partner Maria Tan Pedersen has been named “Equity Capital Markets Lawyer of the Year” by Euromoney/Legal Media Group in the Asia-Pacific Women in Business Law Awards 2021. The contest recognizes outstanding women lawyers and the firms that set the standard for women-friendly work practices. 

Ms. Pedersen has closed a number of notable cross-border capital markets deals since joining Dechert’s Singapore corporate practice in January 2020. Among several standout transactions, she advised on the US$253 million initial public offering and listing of Philippine real estate investment trust AREIT, Inc. The transaction, the first REIT listing in the Philippines, established an entirely new market in the country. 

Ms. Pedersen was earlier recognized by the Financial Times in its Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards 2021 for her role in the deal. The transaction itself was also named “Equity Deal of the Year” by the International Financial Law Review in the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards 2021.

Euromoney also featured two other Dechert partners in the Women in Business Law Awards. Singapore-based corporate partner Siew Kam Boon was named a finalist for “Private Equity Lawyer of the Year”, while Hong Kong’s Maria Sit was a finalist for both “Financial Regulation Lawyer of the Year” and “White Collar Crime Lawyer of the Year”. Maria Pedersen was also a finalist in the “Debt Capital Markets Lawyer of the Year” category.

Winners in Euromoney’s Asia-Pacific Women in Business Law Awards were announced in an online ceremony on September 15.
