Dechert M&A Deal Honored in ALB Korea Law Awards 2018
A Dechert transaction was named "M&A Deal of the Year" at Asian Legal Business’s Korea Law Awards 2018, established to honor outstanding performance by private practitioners and in-house teams in Korea and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dechert was recognized for its role serving Korean memory chip maker SK hynix, Inc., which joined an investment consortium in the US$18 billion acquisition of Japan-based Toshiba Corporation’s NAND flash memory and solid-state drive business, now known as Toshiba Memory Corp. The consortium was led by U.S. private equity firm Bain Capital and included Apple Inc. and Dell Technologies.
The cross-border Dechert team was led by Hong-Kong based corporate partner David Cho. The acquisition touched on the laws of multiple jurisdictions around the world, including South Korea, the United States, China and Japan.
The acquisition of Toshiba Memory Corp, described by Thomson Reuters as the fourth largest private equity-backed M&A deal since the financial crisis of 2008, was earlier named "M&A Deal of the Year for North Asia" by The Asian Lawyer at its Asia Legal Awards 2018 and "M&A Deal of the Year (Premium)" at Asian Legal Business’s Japan Law Awards 2018.
