Dechert’s International Capital Markets Team Shortlisted for “Finance Team of the Year” by The Lawyer
Dechert’s international capital markets team has been shortlisted for “Finance Team of the Year” in The Lawyer’s annual legal awards. The publication named the firm to the shortlist for its success in advising JSC National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national rail company of Kazakhstan, on a five-year Swiss Franc-denominated Eurobond, which was issued last December. The notes were dual-listed on the Astana International Exchange (AIX), a new exchange in Kazakhstan, and on the SIX Swiss Exchange in Zurich.
This deal broke new ground in several respects. It was the first corporate bond to be listed on AIX, which opened for trading just a month before the issuance. It involved the first combined offering document for dual-listed securities prepared in accordance with AIX rules. It was also the first dual listed corporate bond involving AIX.
The Dechert team advising on the transaction was led by Patrick Lyons, Jennifer Rees and Amy Rees in London, supported by Victor Mokrousov and Yevgeniya Nossova in Almaty.
Dechert has a strong track record advising on innovative capital markets transactions in the emerging markets, including issuances by governments, state-owned companies, banks, and other multinational corporations.
The team has received a number of accolades this year for orchestrating first-of-their-kind capital market transactions. In March, Dechert won the “Albania Deal of the Year” award at CEE Legal Matters’ Deals of the Year Awards for representing the Republic of Albania on the country’s first Rule 144A Eurobond offering and simultaneous cash tender offer. A month before, the India Business Law Journal singled out Dechert’s work for Singaporean clean-energy developer Sindicatum Renewable Energy Company Pte Ltd on the first Southeast Asian green bond issuance denominated in Indian rupees and Philippine pesos as one of its “Deals of the Year”.
Winners in The Lawyer’s annual awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on June 25.
