Dr. Olaf Fasshauer is a member of Dechert’s global finance and real estate practice groups with over 20 years of experience representing clients, many of whom are key players in the real estate industry, in complex domestic as well as cross-border commercial real estate and finance matters, including portfolio and single high value property transactions, loan originations, sale-and-leasebacks, heritable building rights and property developments.

Across sectors, Dr. Fasshauer also advises clients on data protection legislation, including GDPR. As a member of Dechert's cyber, privacy and AI practice, also serving as the firm’s data protection officer, he handles compliance projects, cross-border data flow issues, data breach notifications, data subject requests and defends clients against actions of competitors and regulators.

Dr. Fasshauer regularly advises on complex employment matters in the context of corporate transactions, including on workforce transfers under German TUPE (Transfers of Undertakings Directive 2001) regulations and drafting and negotiating collective agreements with works councils and trade unions.

He is recognized as leading lawyer by clients and peers in these key areas of practice. He is ranked as one of the “Best Lawyers in Germany 2024” by German nationwide daily Handelsblatt for data security and privacy as well as in IFLR1000's rankings for banking and for real estate, and by Legal Experts in the categories of construction and real estate.
