Law360 Names Six Dechert Partners as MVPs of the Year

Six Dechert LLP partners from five practice areas have been selected as MVPs of the Year for 2020 by leading legal publication Law360. Dechert is among a small group of firms with the highest number of individuals selected.

Each year, the publication names just a handful of lawyers per practice area across a range of legal disciplines. Those selected as MVPs are judged to have achieved the biggest wins or made the most significant contributions to their practice groups in the past year. 

The Dechert partners named to this year’s list are:

Competition - Shari Ross Lahlou, a top first-chair trial lawyer who made her name handling high-stakes, high-profile antitrust and other complex litigation matters for Fortune 500 companies. Ms. Lahlou recently represented PeroxyChem, which obtained approval for its US$640 million merger with Evonik after a two-week trial in D.C. federal court, the first FTC trial loss in a merger case in D.C. federal court since 2007.

Private Equity - Mark Thierfelder, head of Dechert’s global corporate and securities group and chair of the firm’s global private equity practice. Under Mr. Thierfelder’s stewardship, the practice has embarked on a fast-track growth trajectory and now advises more than 300 private equity and other private investment firms worldwide.

Product Liability - Mark Cheffo and Sheila Birnbaum (combined winners), co-leaders of Dechert’s product liability and mass torts group. Under their direction, the Dechert team has led the defense in multiple large MDLs and state court litigations, and spearheaded the first proposed comprehensive global resolution of all state and federal cases against a defendant in the Opioid Litigation.

Structured Finance - John Timperio, a global finance partner and head of Dechert’s global structured credit and CLO team. Mr. Timperio focuses his practice on developing novel permanent and private capital solutions for the firm’s asset management clients. His team is frequently acclaimed for excellence and outstanding service.

White Collar - Andrew Levander, Dechert chairman and a partner in the firm’s white collar and securities litigation group. Mr. Levander, a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, widely considered to be the premier professional trial organization in the United States, is consistently recognized for excellence in the practice of law.
