US Law Students
Dechert is a thriving firm that takes on our clients' most complex and challenging legal matters. Our focus on high-stakes global matters translates into stimulating, meaningful work for our lawyers and drives a spirit of collaboration and creativity.
A major driver of our success has been our ability to attract talented law students and lawyers from diverse backgrounds and from all parts of the world.
We welcome those who share our passion for excellence and believe in our core values of integrity, teamwork, mutual respect, governing by consensus, mentoring and training, advancement based on ability, performance and contributions to the firm.
Dechert is committed to providing relevant, engaging and specialized training to our lawyers. This begins on day one of our summer program, when all summer associates come together for a multi-day, interactive orientation in New York. During orientation, summer associates learn about Dechert's history and culture, its Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, and its pro bono program. Following orientation are formal, hands-on training programs, including mock negotiations and mock depositions.
Summer Associates also learn about Dechert's core practice areas and attend regular practice group meetings and training sessions. They participate in Dechert's industry-recognized Critical Skills Institute program, as well, which helps them develop their leadership, management, communication and client relations skills.
In addition to these formal training programs, summer associates are given challenging, substantive assignments working on some of the most sophisticated matters in the legal market. Summer associates also have the opportunity to attend depositions, client meetings, hearings, board meetings, and other proceedings.

My experience with pro bono matters has not only ben interesting and engaging, but also extremely rewarding. Through Dechert’s commitment to pro bono, I’ve had the opportunity to take advantage of the firm’s resources to support matters that make a difference, build connections throughout the firm, and improve my skills as a lawyer.
I’m fortunate to have been selected to participate in and co-chair Dechert’s Global Associate’s Committee. Consistent with Dechert’s culture of transparent communication with associates, the Committee is one of many outlets through which the partnership shares information about Dechert’s strategic direction and operations. Perhaps more importantly, it is a key forum where associates are able to voice questions or concerns, and help shape solutions in collaboration with firm leaders.
