Rick Jones, co-chair of Dechert’s global finance and real estate practice groups, focuses his practice on sophisticated, capital markets and mortgage finance transactions. Under Rick’s leadership, the 150 attorney practice is recognized by industry publications and legal directories for showing strength in providing lenders with innovative deal structuring, creative financing strategies and efficient execution. The "highly regarded" Jones is noted in Chambers, USA for his expertise in an array of high-value real estate financing matters. In addition Legal 500, US recognizes the “creative structuring advice” he provides particularly on CMBS transactions and CRE CLOs. Widely recognized as a leader in the industry, he received the CREFC Founders Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) for his leadership.

Rick frequently publishes and speaks on a wide range of issues affecting the capital markets and mortgage finance markets including topics like CRE CLOs, LIBOR replacements, risk retention, and new financial structures.  He is the founder of, and principal author of, the Dechert blog - Crunched Credit, which takes a critical look at the global financial markets.

Rick graduated from Washington and Lee University, B.A., magna cum laude and the University of Virginia, School of Law, J.D.  He received his L.L.M from Boston University School of Law and has been admitted to the Bar in Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut. 

Rick is a past president of the CRE Finance Council; a founder of the Commercial Real Estate Institute (CRI); a member and past governor of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and a former chair of its Capital Markets Committee; and a member of the Commercial Mortgage Board of Governors (COMBOG) of the MBA.  Rick is a member of the Real Estate Roundtable, serving on its Capital and Credit Policy Advisory Committee. He also serves as the chairman of CRE Finance Council’s PAC.
