July 03, 2018

London — Dechert LLP has significantly strengthened its commercial and insurance litigation practices with the hire of Dorothy Cory-Wright. Ms. Cory-Wright will join the firm’s London office as Head of its Commercial Disputes practice. She joins from another international firm, where she served as Head of the London Disputes practice and a co-leader of the global Commercial Disputes and Litigation practice.

Ms. Cory-Wright is the sixth female partner to join Dechert’s global litigation team in nine months, which saw the additions of product liability and mass torts partner Sheila Birnbaum (New York), international trade partners Amanda DeBusk and Melissa Duffy (Washington), litigation partner Christina Sarchio (Washington) and IP litigation partner Katherine Helm (New York). Dechert’s London office serves as a hub for international and multi-jurisdictional work, and building the firm’s core areas of litigation, white collar crime, corporate, financial services and tax is part of a central strategy to meet client demand. Dechert has recently hired litigation partner Stephen Surgeoner, white collar crime and investigations partner Roger Burlingame, tax partner Jane Scobie, corporate partner Christopher Field and financial services partner Monica Gogna in London.

Named for Litigation and Insurance Law in Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom 2019 and “Best in Insurance & Reinsurance” at the 2017 LMG Women in Business Law awards, Ms. Cory-Wright’s practice is focused on commercial litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution. Described as “a skilled litigator, who provides clients with ‘very astute and intuitive advice’” (Chambers UK), Ms. Cory-Wright’s practice focuses on complex, multi-jurisdictional and high-value disputes across a variety of sectors including financial services, re/insurance, energy and life sciences. She deals with investigations, monitorships and litigation arising from insolvencies and restructuring and from complex financial products.

“As a former Barrister and now a Solicitor Advocate who also has substantial arbitration expertise, Dorothy offers an uncommon skillset and experience base for global clients facing disputes that touch the London market,” said Matthew L. Larrabee, chair of Dechert’s global litigation practice group. “She is widely respected, a proven practice builder and problem solver for clients; we are delighted she has joined the team.”

Ms. Cory-Wright added, “Dechert’s litigation practice is widely recognized for tackling the most critical cross-border matters. The opportunity to grow my practice among the world’s top litigators was unmissable.”

Dechert’s global litigation practice is now more than 350 lawyers. Recognized as a go-to firm for challenging disputes, Dechert represents clients from a range of industries in complex litigation proceedings related to insurance and banking, commercial agreements, consumer fraud, false advertising, corporate governance and M&A-related claims. The firm’s litigators are renowned for devising litigation strategy, facilitating pre-trial resolutions to commercial disputes, managing e-discovery, obtaining summary judgments or voluntary dismissal of claims, negotiating favourable settlements and prevailing at trial.  Ms. Cory-Wright received her LL.B. from the University of London and qualified as a Barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law. She is a member of Gray’s Inn.
